Brakes: Specialty Performance Brakes | ACDelco

ACDelco Specialty Performance (Fleet/Police) Semi-Metallic Disc Brake Pads are formulated with steel strands to provide strength and conduct heat away from the rotor’s surface while offering premium braking power. They are engineered to help resist corrosion and premature wear. They offer exceptional performance and include noise-dampening shims where applicable. These brake pads are specifically designed to meet the demands of police and fleet vehicles. ACDelco Specialty Performance (Fleet/Police) Semi-Metallic Brake Pads are ready to be installed right out of the box – no curing required.

  • Rubberized adjustment clips for quiet operation
  • Premium chamfers and slots match up with original equipment
  • Nucap Retention System (NRS) backing plates used when possible for superior performance
  • Utilize damped iron metallurgy to reduce noise, vibration and heat
  • Tested to SAE J2784 standards for braking effectiveness, along with Noise/Vibration/Harshness (NVH) and durability/wear testing for assurance of quality
  • Ceramic, semi-metallic and organic formulas provide safety and reliability for a range of vehicle applications
  • Friction material is integrally molded to backing plate for bond integrity

Brake pad signs of wear include:

  • Chirping, grinding or squeaking noises when braking.
  • Difficulty stopping the vehicle.
  • A low or sinking brake pedal.
  • Braking causes the pedal and/or steering wheel to pulsate/vibrate (not to be confused with normal ABS operation.
  • Vehicle pulls to the left or right when brakes are applied.

Brake Rotor: Function:

A rotating disc that helps slow or stop the vehicle when the brake pads press against its surface (disc brakes).

Brake Rotor: Signs of Wear:

Brake pedal pulsation (not to be confused with normal ABS operation), squealing or grinding noise, low brake pedal height, vehicle pulls to the left or right when brakes are applied.

Brake Pads: Function:

Flat pads with frictional materials contact the rotor to help slow or stop the vehicle (disc brakes).

Brake Pads: Signs of Wear:

Chirping, grinding or squealing noise, difficulty stopping the vehicle.

Did You Know?

When you step on your brake pedal, you command a stopping force 10 times as powerful as the force that puts the car in motion. The brakes system can exert as much as 1,000 pounds (450 kg) of hydraulic pressure on each of the four brakes.

What It Does:

The Brake System applies frictional force to the wheels to slow or stop the vehicle.

Good Maintenance Practices:

The following inspections and maintenance procedures can help prevent potential brake problems:

  • Check brake fluid level at every oil change. Replace fluid according to Owner's Manual recommendations.
  • Calipers and wheel cylinders should be checked every brake inspection and serviced or replaced as required.
  • Inspect the brake lines for rust, punctures or visible leaks (you may be able to do this, but consult a qualified technician if necessary).
  • Check the thickness of your brake pads.

The following should be conducted by a qualified technician:

  • Inspection of the brake hoses for brittleness or cracking.
  • Inspection of brake lining and pads for wear or contamination by brake fluid or grease.
  • Inspection of wheel bearings and grease seals.
  • Parking brake adjustments (as needed).

Do I have to replace all my brake parts when replacing my brake rotors?

  • No, but it is a good idea to inspect them for wear-out, cracking, leaking, etc.

Do I have to replace my brake rotors after a certain amount of time?

  • No, but it is a good idea to inspect your brake rotors at each tire rotation.
