Signs of Wear & Troubleshooting:

If you inspect your axle fluid and find it to be thicker, dark or black in color or milky/opaque, it could be a sign of fluid contamination or breakdown. If this is the case, it is time to change your fluid. Always use the axle fluid recommended in your Owner’s Manual or by your vehicle’s manufacturer.

Good Maintenance Practices:

Adding the incorrect amount of axle fluid, or topping off with too much axle fluid, can result in an overfill condition. An overfill condition may result in shorter fluid and axle life, marginally lower fuel economy and higher axle operating temperatures. See your Owner’s Manual for vehicle-specific information about correct fluid levels.

Check and change your axle fluid as often as recommended in your Owner’s Manual or by your vehicle’s manufacturer. Always use the type of fluid as recommended by these sources as well. Replacing axle fluid will minimize premature wear or damage caused by contaminated or worn-out fluid.

FAQs:

Is there a specific axle lubricant I should use for my vehicle?

  • Yes. Consult your Owner’s Manual for the correct axle lubricant and change interval.

Can I use a GL-5 axle lubricant in my vehicle if GL-4 is recommended?

  • No. For best results, only use the type of fluid recommended in your Owner’s Manual.
