Engine Sealant: RTV Engine Sealant | ACDelco

RTV Engine Sealant is a one-component, room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. It is a high-viscosity engine sealant that cures when exposed to air. The cured material has adhesion and elongation properties and is effective even on large gaps. It is very resistant to engine oils and coolants, will not corrode metals and is blow-out resistant. This engine sealant is also oxygen-sensor safe. This product comes in a cartridge for easy, large-scale application and requires a conventional caulking gun.

  • Engineered for use on a variety of engine components – effective on oil pan, ladder frame, front and rear covers, t-joints, manifold corners, intake, manifold end seals and cam covers
  • Designed for quick and easy application, assembly may be filled with oil or coolant immediately after applying sealant and torqueing the bolts
  • High-viscosity product that cures when exposed to air
  • 12.65 oz. Part No. 10-2006 88864346

Signs of Wear & Troubleshooting:

Engine sealants provide an effective solution when you observe small leaks from a variety of engine components. Some of the most common sources of leakage are:

  • Areas around the head gasket
  • Above and below the intake manifold gasket
  • Valve cover access panels
  • Oil pan

Good Maintenance Practices:

  • Engine sealants are able to fix engine leaks, but it is important to check on the size and nature of the leaks before use. If leaks are large and fluids are pouring out of the vehicle, more significant engine repair is likely required. Attempting to fix a major leak with engine sealant could lead to contamination of other fluid reservoirs and end up causing major damage to the vehicle.
  • Carefully follow the directions for engine sealant application, as improper use can also cause significant harm to the engine.
  • Consulting a technician is a great way to determine whether the leak is too large for engine sealant and to ensure the proper application of these products.
  • For application of these products: Surface should be free of residual fluids such as oil and coolant, as well as detergent residuals. Joints should be closed within 20 minutes of sealant application. Final tightening should be done within one hour of sealant application and joint closure.

Can ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant cause damage to my engine?

  • Yes, ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant can cause damage if the product contaminates the fluid. Keep the applied product away from the fluid side of the seal. For best results, follow the application instructions.

Can a leak be too large for ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant to be effective?

  • Yes, a leak can be too large for the ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant to be effective. If the fluid is flowing from the engine (more than drips), a more robust repair method must be used.

Do the cartridge and tube versions of ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant function the same?

  • Yes, the ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant cartridge and tube versions can be used for the same functions.

Will ACDelco RTV Engine Sealant last a long time without the need to reapply?

  • Yes, ACDelco RTV sealant can last a very long time if applied using proper methods. Clean surfaces and correct application techniques can give years of effective service.
