FUNCTION:
To prevent airborne particles from entering the vehicle’s cabin (some designs also remove odors, fumes and smoke).

SIGNS OF WEAR:
Excessively dirty filter element, poor cabin ventilation/airflow (blower motor damage could occur if a plugged filter goes unchanged for a long period of time)

DID YOU KNOW:
Properly disposing of used oil and oil filters is critical to protecting the environment and is also becoming regulated throughout the country as landfills become overcrowded.

For example, recycling just 20 percent of all oil and oil filters used annually in the U.S. can reap big results, including:

Saving nearly 400,000 cubic yards (over 300,000 cubic meters) of landfill space
Preventing millions of gallons (liters) of oil from being dumped into landfills
Reusing more than 34,000 tons (over 30,000 metric tons) of filter scrap to produce steel products

Consider recycling your oil and oil filters. It will make a big impact on the environment.

WHAT IT DOES:
The filtering system prevents contaminants from entering the engine and transmission while allowing enough fluid or airflow to keep them running properly.

A cabin air filter prevents airborne particles from entering the vehicle’s interior.

SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE:
Replacing your vehicle’s filters on a regularly scheduled basis will help the vehicle run better and last longer. (Refer to your owner’s manual for you vehicle’s specific filter change intervals.)

If you air filter is only slightly dirty, you can try cleaning it by gently tapping it on a flat surface or by blowing compressed air through it, from the clean side out.

You will need to replace the air filter more often if you drive frequently on dirt roads or live in a dust area.
